As you know, she should be very wrong. Only one year after her death in 1945, a journalist remarked in the daily newspaper in Amsterdam: “This seemingly insignificant young girl’s diary illustrates the darkness of fascism better than any evidence from the Nuremberg Trials”.

Anne Frank’s diary will guide you through your walking tour in Amsterdam. It’s the thread that will lead you through Amsterdam’s Jewish history and at many points during your tour, your city guide Anne Frank will speak to you directly.

Get to know the Jewish Quarter of Amsterdam

Explore the area and let our stories tell you why the Jewish population wanted to settle here out of all places. Not only Jews wanted to live here, but also non-Jews were enticed by the Jewish Quarter, like the famous painter Rembrand van Rijn.

During your walking tour you will see the Portuguese Synagogue, the stumbling blocks, the gate to the old plague cemetery and monuments, reminding of the courageous resistance during the Third Reich.

Naturally, you will also get a glimpse of the lives of Jews living in Amsterdam during the Second World War. You will hear moving stories about the courageous resistance of Jews and Non-Jews, who risked their own lives to save others. You will also discover how the Jewish Community lives and breathes in the multi-cultural city of Amsterdam today.

This tour does not include a visit to the Anne Frank House. It’s nearly impossible to get tickets for the Anne Frank House, since it is just too small to accommodate the interested people from all over the world.

Our tour is perfect for you if you have not been able to get tickets for the Anne Frank House, or if you have already visited the house and you would like to receive more detailed insights into the Jewish lives in Amsterdam.

Our guided walking tour does not only give insight into Anne Frank’s life, but also sheds light on life before and after the Holocaust and is therefore ideal for school classes as well. You don’t have to know or have read Anne Frank’s Diary in order to follow our tour.

We will meet in front of the restaurant “De Waag”, Nieuwmarkt 4, 1012 CR in Amsterdam. The Restaurant “De Waag” is situated inside a historical building resembling a small castle. The entrance is located at the front, where you can see the patio furniture. You will recognize your personal city guide by his or her red name badge around the neck.
