On your guided tour, find out where the sex workers come from, how negotiations between clients and sex workers take place, what income and expenses the women face, how room rentals are organised, and how the women protect themselves from unwanted assaults.

On your tour, you’ll discover all the facets of the infamous red-light district. You’ll stroll through the narrow alleys around the ‘Oude Kerk’ and find out why this old, venerable church stands right in the middle of the Red-Light District. We’ll let you in on one little secret: the countless confessionals are there for a reason…

We’ll also show you the popular specialist condom shop ‘Condomerie’, walk past Amsterdam’s first commercial coffeeshop and ‘Dignita’, a charity that rescues sex workers from difficult situations.

Fun versus safety

The tour focuses on providing critical information: we also shed light on the darker sides and challenges of sex work. At the same time, you can look forward to plenty of curious and entertaining stories from the district. The tour can also be tailored to specific groups, such as stag parties or school groups.

Red-light district tours in Amsterdam

Following new regulations introduced by the City of Amsterdam, since 1 April 2020 only groups of up to 4 people plus a guide are permitted to walk directly past the windows of sex workers.

This red-light district tour is suitable for young adults, as we address the subject in a critical and age-appropriate manner. Nevertheless, we recommend that participants be aged 16 or over for the public tour. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or by an adult supervisor.

If you’d like to bring younger family members on the red-light district tour, please book a private tour so that the tour can be tailored to the age of the participants.

Meeting point

We’ll meet on the steps of the National Monument (Nationaal Monument) on Dam Square. The monument looks like a large white column or obelisk. You’ll recognise your tour guide by the red name badge around their neck.

Very nice, informative guided tours through Amsterdam In total we had booked 4 tours with Incredible Amsterdam. We particularly enjoyed the bike and food tour with Nina, but the red light tour, the Jordaan tour and the canal tour were also very nice. All the guides are very knowledgeable and tell you a lot about life in Amsterdam. We really enjoyed our time with Incredible Amsterdam.

Fantastic tour of the Red Light District - even better than a museum! Lea was an absolutely wonderful guide! She was very knowledgeable, friendly/approachable, and made our group feel comfortable about asking questions on this topic. She cultivated a professional and fun tour and was thorough at each site with her explanations and her questions made us think more deeply about what we saw. We definitely felt that we learned more from taking her tour than going to a museum to read about the red light district. She is a fantastic and informative storyteller. One thing I do need to mention is that we were running late for this tour and most tour guides would have (understandably) gone ahead without us. Lea proactively reached out to us by calling us on WhatsApp (being international tourists, my phone could not receive local calls, but WhatsApp uses the internet so she got through!) and she was incredibly nice as she checked in to see if we were still coming and even kept in touch with us to give the next location to meet since we were late. At the end of tour, Lea stayed longer to not only answer the group's questions, but took an additional 10-15 mins to explain what we had missed at the beginning and even walked us to the first site that we missed. That is going above and beyond what we ever expected from a tour guide, considering it was our fault we were late!! We were very appreciative of Lea's generosity and time in doing this despite having a personal deadline later that night to meet!! <3 We would highly recommend taking this tour with Lea! When my partner and I rated the activities we did for our Amsterdam trip, this tour was at the top of the highlights because we learned so much about the red district and it was because Lea did a fantastic job of leading us through the information when visiting the sites and did a great job connecting with the group!

Great tours in a magical city!
